Alan began his construction experience in the late 1950s by helping his father finish their basement with a knotty pine paneling. This experience continued through the 1960s with summer employment from various local contractors. Upon graduation from high school and some university training Alan and his brother began purchasing and remodeling older homes. This led to the forming of their first contracting business in the mid 1970s. Since that time Alan has been involved in the construction industry in responsibilities from hands on construction in every trade to supervision and eventually President of a multi-million dollar construction company with several hundred employees. In 2002 Alan stepped out of construction for a period of time to return to Japan and follow his ecclesiastical responsibilities.
During his 40 years of construction, Alan was active and involved in industry groups and organizations that improved the construction industry. In the early 1980s Alan served as President of The Utah Valley Home Builders Association. He was asked to serve on a national advisory board for Kirby Metal Buildings Systems. During this time period he spent several years as chairman of the grievance and ethics committee for the Utah Valley Home Builders Association. In doing so he realized the importance of quality construction and the critical nature of proper communication between owner and contractor. These experiences lead to his pioneering of design-build construction projects and turn-key development opportunities in Utah and the mountain west. Alan eventually became a licensed general contractor in Utah, California, and Nevada. Also doing projects in Idaho, Wyoming, and Arizona.
Alan is a proponent of the superior nature of the construction management and the project consulting process. Through this process owners are empowered to know and control the outcome of their own projects. The relationship between contractor and owner becomes a positive and beneficial relationship, rather than one of an adversarial nature. Alan looks forward to working with you, the owner, in creating and constructing your dream project and avoiding the all too common nightmare that can occur under the typical contractor/owner way of doing business.
